On the morning of September 15th, our Consul General, Jorge Islas López, in the company of the Mexican actress and singer Thalia and the Naval Commissioner of the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the UN General Brigadier Victor Omar Rodríguez and Admiral Juan Ramon Hernandez Carmona respectively, they turned on the lights of the Iconic Empire State Building with the colors of our flag. By the afternoon, the Grito de la Independencia at Bruant Park was attended by more than 12 thousand Mexican compatriots; in this sense, the honor guard was featured by the Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams.

Mexico was represented extensively with the participation of the Veracruz group Tlen Huicani, the Mariachi Real de México, and the Ballet Folklorico Mexicano of New York. During the program of the event, the “Othli” award was given to Guadalupe Romero, Director of the Center for Education. Resources for Adults (CREA) for her outstanding work in the service of the Mexican diaspora in the field of Education. Also, the community had the opportunity to explore a gastronomic sample with typical food from different states of our republic, such as Oaxaca, Sinaloa, and Jalisco, among others.
